Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is Sri Lanka’s best-preserved ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It served as the capital during the 10th to 12th centuries and is a treasure trove of temples, stupas, and royal palaces. The site is compact enough to explore in a day, making it ideal for cycling. The Gal Vihara statues carved into a single granite slab are a highlight. Surrounded by lakes and forest, the area offers a peaceful escape into history, culture, and nature. Wildlife like monkeys and birds are commonly seen around the ruins.
