Sigiriya

Sigiriya, the iconic rock fortress also known as the “Lion Rock,” is one of Sri Lanka’s greatest archaeological wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century, this ancient palace complex is perched atop a 200-meter-high rock with panoramic views of the surrounding jungle and water gardens. The climb up the rock is as fascinating as the view from the top — with its frescoes, Mirror Wall, and lion-paw entrance. Sigiriya is surrounded by traditional villages and lush landscapes, making it ideal for those seeking a mix of history, culture, and nature. The nearby Pidurangala Rock offers a less crowded but equally impressive climb and view.
